Key findings
Western Australia has seven of the 10 lowest-rated airports in the country. Paraburdoo is second from the bottom at 3.23, Port Hedland third (3.37) and Learmonth, which serves Exmouth and Ningaloo, fourth (3.38). Perth Airport is eighth (3.59), with Kalgoorlie-Boulder ninth (3.60) and Broome 10th (3.65).
At the other end, Port Lincoln Airport on South Australia's Eyre Peninsula is the best-rated in Australia at 4.62 from 131 reviews, just ahead of Mount Gambier (4.61), also in South Australia. Armidale in northern New South Wales is third at 4.45.
The average airport in the ranking scores 3.95. The three Queensland airports in the bottom 10 are Moranbah in the Bowen Basin, fifth from the bottom at 3.45, Sunshine Coast Airport sixth (3.52) and Mackay seventh (3.58).
Reviewers at the bottom mostly complain about facilities, queues and bags. One Newman traveller wrote in May 2026: "Terrible service. Slow moving security. Small bar." A Learmonth reviewer wrote: "Shop always closed and absolutely nothing available to eat or drink. Even the vending machine is empty." At Mackay, one asked: "Do the bags come on a separate plane? How does it take so long to get them when this airport is so small?" A Perth reviewer wrote: "Toilets are always full, it's a maze of corridors and there's never enough staff."
New South Wales has four of the 10 best-rated airports, with Albury fifth (4.41), Dubbo seventh (4.35) and Orange 10th (4.22) joining Armidale. Bendigo in Victoria is fourth (4.42) and Devonport in Tasmania sixth (4.37), while Queensland's Toowoomba Wellcamp (4.26) and Bundaberg (4.25) are eighth and ninth. One Mount Gambier reviewer wrote: "Amazing regional airport! Great coffee & toasties too!"
Among the capital city airports, Adelaide is the best-rated at 4.22, 11th of the 53. It is followed by Canberra (4.19), Brisbane (3.92), Melbourne (3.84), Hobart (3.84), Sydney (3.82) and Darwin (3.80). Melbourne edges Hobart on the unrounded figure. Perth is the lowest-rated capital city airport at 3.59.

Method
How we did it
We used the DataForSEO Business Listings database to pull the Google Maps listings for Australian airports on October 5, 2026, using Google's airport categories plus searches by name for regional airports that the category pull missed.
Each airport is ranked on its main Google listing, so separate listings for single terminals or drop off zones were left out. General aviation airfields with no airline flights, such as Bankstown, Moorabbin and Jandakot, were left out, along with a mining company's private charter strip and Shellharbour Airport, where the reviews are mostly about the aviation museum and air shows on site. That left the 53 passenger airports with at least 100 Google reviews each, 99,664 reviews in all.
Each airport was ranked by its exact average rating, worked out from its count of one, two, three, four and five-star reviews rather than the rounded score Google displays, so airports that show the same rating on Google are still put in order. Where two airports have exactly the same average, the one with the larger share of one-star reviews ranks lower.
The 53 airports are spread across all six states and both mainland territories, and the best and worst rated airport in each is listed below.
