These are the 10 worst DMV offices in America, according to Google reviews

Key findings

The Office of Motor Vehicles in Slidell, Louisiana, has the lowest score in the country, averaging 1.95 stars from 521 reviews, and 372 of those reviews give one star. The state's offices in Baton Rouge (2.25) and New Orleans (2.30) are second and third from bottom, and the offices in Hahnville (2.34) and Houma (2.38) are also in the worst 10.

North Carolina has three offices in the bottom 10, the NCDMV driver license offices in Fayetteville, Durham and Charlotte. The Olivette License Office in St. Louis County, Missouri, is fourth from bottom at 2.31, and the Clarksville Driver Services Center in Tennessee is ninth at 2.39.

At the other end, the Miami-Dade Tax Collector office in Miami Beach, Florida, is the best rated DMV office in America at 4.96 stars, with 292 of its 296 reviews giving five stars. Oklahoma's tag agencies take four of the 10 best spots, led by North Tulsa Tag Agency in second place at 4.93. The Glenstone License Office in Springfield, Missouri, has more Google reviews than any other DMV office in the country, 7,409, and still averages 4.87 stars, the seventh best score.

Across all 2,441 offices, the average score is 3.80 stars. Louisiana's 36 ranked offices average 3.13, the lowest of the 41 states with at least 10 ranked offices, followed by Hawaii and Massachusetts, both at 3.29. Indiana's offices score highest, at 4.16.

Most complaints at the lowest rated offices are about waiting. One Baton Rouge reviewer wrote in September that they “arrived 9:30am was attended only at 3:30pm,” and a reviewer of the New Orleans office counted “23 service windows but only 5 people working.” At the top of the table, one reviewer described the Miami Beach office as “super clean, modern, quiet, nice staff, easy and fast personalized service,” while a Glenstone customer wrote that “this place runs like clockwork.”
