The Five Guys at the American Dream mall in East Rutherford, New Jersey, is the worst-rated in America, averaging 3.17 stars from 130 Google reviews, and 33% of its reviews give a single star.

Key findings
At the other end, the restaurant on North Berkeley Boulevard in Goldsboro, North Carolina, is the best-rated in the country at 4.64 from 267 reviews, ahead of the one on Nicholasville Road in Lexington, Kentucky, at 4.59 from 1,941 reviews.
The average restaurant in the ranking scores 4.27. The Five Guys on North Old Decatur Road in Fort Worth, Texas, is second-worst at 3.23, and the one on Xavier Drive in Yonkers, New York, is third at 3.24. Texas has four restaurants in the bottom 10, with Dallas (fourth), Frisco (seventh) and College Station (10th) joining Fort Worth, and New Jersey has two, both in malls, with the one at Garden State Plaza in Paramus fifth. The others are on Spruce Street in Philadelphia, by the University of Pennsylvania (sixth), at Easton Town Center in Columbus, Ohio (eighth), and on West Happy Valley Road in Phoenix (ninth).
North Carolina, Kentucky and Maryland each have two restaurants in the top 10. Both Kentucky restaurants are in Lexington, on Nicholasville Road (second) and Helmsdale Place (fourth, 4.59), North Carolina's are in Goldsboro and Asheville (sixth, 4.57), and Maryland's are in Edgewater (fifth, 4.58) and Gambrills (10th, 4.55). Restaurants in Summerville, South Carolina, Winchester, Virginia, Whitehall Township, Pennsylvania, and New Port Richey, Florida, complete the list. Nevada's Five Guys restaurants are the best-rated of any state on average, narrowly ahead of Kansas and Indiana, with all three at 4.40 when rounded, while Texas' are the lowest-rated at 4.08, followed by Oklahoma (4.09) and Illinois (4.14).

Method
How we did it
We used the DataForSEO Business Listings database to pull the Google Maps listings for Five Guys restaurants across the US with at least 50 reviews on October 7, 2026, 1,561 listings in all.
We kept the listings whose Google name starts with Five Guys and that Google files as a restaurant. Closed restaurants, duplicate listings at the same street address, the Google listing for the company's headquarters and other businesses that share the Five Guys name were left out, while restaurants in malls, shopping centers and airports were included. That left the 1,366 open restaurants with at least 100 Google reviews each, 1,190,268 reviews in all.
Each restaurant was ranked by its exact average rating, worked out from its count of one, two, three, four and five-star reviews rather than the rounded score Google displays, so restaurants that show the same rating on Google are still put in order. Where two restaurants have exactly the same average, the one with the larger share of one-star reviews ranks lower. Every restaurant named in the national and state lists was checked against its live Google listing on October 7, 2026.
Each state's average gives every one of its restaurants equal weight (the mean of the restaurant averages) and is shown for the 33 states with at least 10 restaurants in the ranking. The other 16 states with a ranked restaurant and Washington, D.C. have fewer than 10, so they are left out of the state ranking, but their best and worst rated restaurants are listed below. Alaska has no Five Guys with at least 100 Google reviews.
