Method
How we did it
We used the DataForSEO Business Listings database to pull the Google Maps listings for haunted attractions across Canada on October 8, 2026, and checked each attraction in the ranking against its live Google listing the same day.
We kept haunted houses, haunted trails, hayrides and scream parks that had at least 100 Google reviews and at least one new review since September 1, 2026, a sign they are open for the 2026 Halloween season. That left 25 attractions and 16,321 Google reviews in all.
Ghost tours, escape rooms, shooting dark rides, immersive theatre shows, historic buildings billed as haunted, pumpkin patches and farms where a haunt is only a side attraction, attractions that have closed for good and duplicate listings at the same address were left out.
Each attraction was ranked by its exact average rating, worked out from its count of one, two, three, four and five-star reviews rather than the rounded score Google displays, so attractions that show the same rating on Google are still put in order. Where two attractions have exactly the same average, the one with the larger share of one-star reviews ranks lower.
Province averages give every attraction equal weight (the mean of the attraction averages) and cover the five provinces with at least two attractions in the ranking. Nova Scotia has one.
