Key findings
At the other end, the Neighborhood Market on Bryan Road in Mission, Texas, is the best-rated Walmart in the country at 4.53 stars from 1,293 reviews, ahead of the Neighborhood Market on South Texas Boulevard in Weslaco, Texas (4.50), and the Supercenter in Calexico, California (4.50).
The average Walmart in the ranking scores 3.95. The Supercenter in Galesburg, Illinois, is second-worst at 3.31, and the store on South Cedar Street in Pecos, Texas, is third at 3.36. Minnesota and Michigan both have two stores in the bottom 10. Faribault (3.46) joins St. Cloud, and Grand Rapids (3.42) and Holland (3.48) are fourth and eighth. Klamath Falls, Oregon, Taos, New Mexico, Dubuque, Iowa, and Placerville, California, complete the list.
Recent reviews of the lowest-rated stores talk about long waits more than anything else. "Literally was standing around for 10 minutes. Waiting to check out with 2 items," one Galesburg shopper wrote. In Holland, a reviewer said: "Literally less than a quarter of the registers (including self checkout) are ever open." In St. Cloud, another wrote that it "Doesn’t matter what time of day you go you never get help for anything behind the glass."
Six of the 10 best-rated stores are Neighborhood Markets, Walmart's smaller grocery stores, and none of the 10 worst are. Texas border towns take six places in the top 10, with stores in Laredo, Hidalgo, Eagle Pass and McAllen joining Mission and Weslaco. Starkville, Mississippi, is fourth, and two Arkansas Neighborhood Markets complete the list, in Conway and in downtown Bentonville, where Walmart has its headquarters. "Even though it's a Walmart this store feels special. Very clean and wonderful staff," one Bentonville shopper wrote.
Arkansas, Walmart's home state, also has the best-rated stores of any state, averaging 4.09, ahead of Texas (4.08) and Mississippi (4.05). Minnesota's stores are the lowest-rated at 3.73, followed by Oregon (3.77) and Montana (3.79).

Method
How we did it
We used the DataForSEO Business Listings database to pull the Google Maps listings for Walmart stores across the US that Google files as a department store, supermarket, grocery store or discount store and that had at least 50 reviews on October 5, 2026, 4,690 listings in all.
We kept the Supercenters, Neighborhood Markets and other Walmart stores whose Google name starts with Walmart. Separate listings for pickup points, delis and other in-store counters, listings marked as permanently or temporarily closed and duplicate listings at the same address were left out. That left the 4,550 open stores with at least 500 Google reviews each, 18,315,482 reviews in all.
Each store was ranked by its exact average rating, worked out from its count of one, two, three, four and five-star reviews rather than the rounded score Google displays, so stores that show the same rating on Google are still put in order. Where two stores have exactly the same average, the one with the larger share of one-star reviews ranks lower.
Each state's average gives every one of its stores equal weight (the mean of the store averages) and is shown for the 45 states with at least 10 stores in the ranking. Alaska, Delaware, Hawaii, Rhode Island, Vermont and Washington, D.C. have fewer than 10, so they are left out of the state ranking, but their best and worst rated stores are listed below.
